Borussia Dortmund Gives Huge Update On Arsenal's Sokratis Transfer Deal

Arsenal's transfer deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos is yet to be finalized, according to Borrusia Dortmund's sporting director Micheal Zorc.

Reports claim Arsenal have agreed a £16m deal with Borrusia Dortmund for the Greece defender.

Sokratis, who is out of contract next season is likely to sign a three-year contract deal with the Gunners.

The 30-year-old worked with Arsenal's head of recruitment Sven Mislintat during his time at Dortmund and he is a big fan of the defender.

But, Dortmund's chief Zorc has revealed Papastathopoulos isn't an Arsenal player yet.

“It tends to go there, that's right. But things are not completely finalised yet,” Zorc told German outlet Revier Sport when asked if Papastathopoulos is heading to north London.

“And I will not work with you now and talk about the rumour mill, which includes 27 new BVB players since the end of May.

“In the meantime, we are having fun ourselves and planning. We have clear ideas and I am very sure that we will put together a very good team.

“This will not necessarily be the case until the start of the season, because thecoach wants to make an impression on the players who are under contract with us.”

The Gunners have already signed Steven Lichtsteiner from Juventus and Bernand Leno from Bayern Leverkusen this summer.

New manager, Unai Emery has been vocal about his plans to reshape the Arsenal squad which failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

“I believe we can grow with the players we have,” he said.

“The objective is to work hard together and with these talented players.

“It’s very important for the club, after two years outside the Champions League, to work to be the best team in the Premier League and also in the world.”

Also, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Arsenal will sign Sokratis on July 1st due to Dortmund's tax dealings.

"Stephan Lichtsteiner is in, Bernd Leno is in and Sokratis Papastathopoulos will sign on July 1," Sheth explained.

"The reason July 1 is because Borussia Dortmund want to announce that at the start of the new tax quarter in Germany.

"There are financial reasons which I cannot even begin to go into."
