Spain Vs Russia: Sergio Ramos Dropped, Coach Hierro Names Penalty Takers

Spain Coach, Fernando Hierro has chosen players who will play their penalties ahead of the last 16 clash against Russia.

Spain finished top of Group B with 5 points after 3 matches in the group to qualify for the knockout stages.

They will now face the World Cup hosts, Russia in the last 16.

Spain played a warm-up match against Russia in November and captain Sergio Ramos scored two penalties in a 3-3 thriller.

According to Spanish Outlet AS, Coach Hierro has decided to drop Ramos from the list of penalty takers should Sunday's match go beyond Extra-time.

AS claim midfielder David Silva will take the opening spot-kick followed by Diego Costa, Isco, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta (in that order).

After Spain's 2-2 draw against Morocco, Hierro admitted that his team's lack of goal is a concern.

“Obviously we can improve, there are things that definitely need to be worked on, and we will definitely be self-critical,” he told reporters.

“Five goals in three matches is not the way forward, I’ve told the players that. But they are professionals and understand.

“We have to be very demanding of ourselves, and be clear in our mind that if they score against us so easily it will be very difficult to reach the ultimate goal.”
