Chelsea Boss Maurizio Sarri Speaks On Transfers, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois And More

Chelsea Boss Maurizio Sarri has stated that he is eager to keep hold of the top stars at the club which include Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois.

Sarri's arrival at Stamford Bridge last weekend is the latest episode in a highly expected summer managerial chance which began with Antonio Conte's exit.

And Chelsea are expected to seal more deals in the transfer market on his behalf as they seek to reshape the squad.

Midfielder Jorginho is Maurizio Sarri's first signing this summer and Sarri also faces a tough fight to keep players at the club.

Hazard and Courtois have been linked with Real Madrid while Willian has been linked with Manchester United and Barcelona.

Sarri has stated he hopes to keep his team together - but he has hinted there could be departures in the coming days.

"Clearly we will always like to keep our strongest players," said Sarri, when asked about interest in Hazard, Courtois and Willian.

"This is what any manager wants to do. Then we will have to see how the transfer market goes in the next few days."

Sarri insists his main focus is on developing the players he already has it his disposal, rather than splashing the cash.

"I want to clarify that I feel much more like a pitch manager than a general manager," continued Sarri, having been asked about a potential move for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain.

"I think I am one of the few managers who is bored by the transfer market. I don’t want to talk about the transfer market and I’m not that interested in it. Our task as managers is to grow the players that we have."

Sarri was willing to admit he is eager to address Chelsea's defence as he looks to implement his own tactical system.

"I cannot name names, because I don’t know," said Sarri, when asked about which players he wants to bring in.

"I spoke with the club and ideally I think that a pinch of quality is lacking in our centre-halves for a certain type of play.

"At the end of the transfers I will understand which type of game is the most suitable.

"I cannot change 20 players, I must adapt and then I will see if we change some thing in my game. Because of their characteristics."

Maurizio Sarri will take charge of Chelsea for the first time when they kick off their pre-season campaign against Perth Glory on Monday.

They follow up that fixture by taking on Inter Milan, Arsenal and Lyon in friendlies, with the Community Shield showdown with Manchester City on August 5.
