Lyon Release Official Statement On Nabil Fekir Amid Liverpool Links

Liverpool are unlikely to sign Nabil Fekir this summer after lyon released an official statement.

Fekir was set to join Liverpool last month but the transfer broke down at the last minute.

The 25-year-old had already been snapped in Liverpool's jersey and conducted an interview with the Club's TV station LFC TV before the deal was scrapped.

Club medics picked up a long-standing knee problem in his medical, prompting Liverpool to go cold on a £50million deal.

Fekir has since taken part in six of France's seven matches at the 2018 World Cup, including coming on as a late substitute in the 4-2 final win over Croatia.

However, Lyon are already preparing for next season with him.

They released a statement yesterday which revealed plans to honour Fekir's success with a presentation on the pitch before their first match of the new Ligue 1 season against Amiens on August 12.

Their tweet read: "Nabil Fekir will be presented with the trophy of the World Cup for his return to Groupama Stadium on Sunday 12 August, on the occasion of the 1st day of the Ligue 1 and the reception of Amiens at 3pm!"

The date - August 12 - is three days after the transfer window shuts in England, suggesting Liverpool won't get their man.

This summer, Liverpool have spent £43.7m on defensive Midfielder Fabinho and £13m on Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City.

The Reds then signed Goalkeeper Alisson from AS Roma, while £52m Midfielder Naby Keita has joined the club after an agreement with RB Leipzig last summer.

Alisson has now joined for £68million, taking the summer spending to around £170m.
