"Individual Awards Are Not Important" - Real Madrid Ace Luka Modric

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has insisted individual awards are not important.

Modric is among the three finalists For FIFA's Best Player Of The Year Award alongside former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Modric was crucial as Real Madrid won the Champions League trophy last season and also helped Croatia in Russia to reach the 2018 World Cup final.

However, Croatia failed to impress and Spain trashed them 6-0 on Tuesday night in the UEFA Nations League.

And Modric is adamant that a successful team is more important than any individual prize.

"For me, the important thing is the collective,” Modric said.

“Winning the prize is not what obsesses me the most.

“If I do not win it, nothing happens."

Speaking about the 6-0 defeat to Spain, Modric added:

"A very tough game. We started the game in the first 20 minutes very well, we had two or three, let's say, clear chances. We didn't score, and when we conceded the first goal, and especially the second, we fell apart," he said.

"We started playing each for themselves, not helping each other, staying far from our players, and against a team like this that's deadly. At the end, the result is poor.

"It was a hard loss, but we need to draw lessons from this. If we aren't at 100 per cent, if we aren't in every game like we were at the World Cup, it's hard to play against any team, particularly teams like Spain."

The winner of the FIFA Best Player Of The Year Award will be announced on September 24.
