US Open Final: Umpire Ramos Breaks Silence On Serena Williams Controversy

The Umpire at this year's US Open final [Ramos] has broken his silence after Serena Williams' reaction to a point deduction in the match.

Serena lost the US Open final last Saturday to Japan's Naomi Osaka in straight sets.

However, the match will still be remembered for a while after Serena's outrageous behaviour in which she was given a codeviolation after her coach Patrick Mourataoglu appeared to be instructing her from the stands.

The Former World no.1 then smashed her racket and was deducted a point before she was later forced to forfeit the game.

Serena also called Ramos a 'thieft' and insisted he will never officiate one of her matches again “as long as she is on a court”.

However, Ramos is now expected to umpire the Davis Cup semi-final between Croatia and the United States on Friday.

But he has waded in on the events of the final in Flushing Meadows.

He said: “It's a delicate situation.

“But umpiring 'a la carte' is something that does not exist.

“Don't worry about me, I'll be fine.”

After the match, colleagues and top tennis stars sent Ramos goodwill messages over the Flashpoint.

Williams, meanwhile, was fined £13,500 for her on-court behaviour.
