US Open: Serena Williams Reaches Final After Anastasija Sevastova Win

Serena Williams has reached the US Open final after thrashing Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 6-0.

Sevastova stunned the Arthur Ashe crowd when she broke Williams' serve in the opening game.

But the American didn't stay down for long, getting back level at 2-2 and breaking again to move ahead 4-2.

Williams sealed the set 6-3 and then broke Sevastova three times in the second set to bagel the Latvian.

The 36-year-old will now play in her 31st Grand Slam final on Sunday against Naomi Osaka.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner has also revealed how Tiger Woods inspired her.

Serena incase you don't know, had a near death experience while giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia but has bounced back from the hospital bed to US Open final in just 12 months.

Williams said: “I feel like he is on his way back.

“He’s been coming back from all his back issues. It’s been a disaster but, boy, he never gave up. It’s inspiring, actually.

“I don’t think a lot of people really know how bad it was. I’m not at liberty to talk about it but it definitely makes me realise that if he can do his best then I can too.

“I got a little emotional because last year I was literally fighting for my life in the hospital. I was on my third surgery by now with one more still to go.

“To come from that, in the hospital bed, not being able to move and walk and do anything, to this now only a year later.

“I’m not training but I’m actually in these finals, in two in a row. But this is the beginning. I’m not there yet. I’m on the climb still. I’m only about 50 or 60 per cent.

“I just feel like not only is my future bright, even though I’m not a spring chicken, but I still have a very bright future. That is super exciting for me.

“My mum said it takes a full year to get back. I’m at a full year now but I’m also playing a sport professionally.

“The emotions and expectations and all the other stuff that you add on top of it is a lot.

“I just feel like I’m definitely not there. Even my body is different. I actually weigh less than I did before I got pregnant, but it’s distributed differently now.”
