Real Madrid Ace Toni Kroos Named German 2018 Footballer Of The Year (Details)

Real Madrid Midfielder Toni Kroos has been announced as the German men's best footballer of the year by German magazine Kicker.

The 28-year-old was key as Real Madrid won a third successive Champions League Title after a 3-1 win over Liverpool in Kiev.

Votes from 475 members of Germany’s sports journalists’ union were counted and Kroos received almost five times as many as Freiburg’s Nils Petersen in second.

Meanwhile, defender Naldo was rewarded for a fine season with Schalke with third place.

"It is and remains a great honor to win Footballer of the Year,” says Kroos in quotes that will appear in Monday’s edition of the publication.

“This is a not a prize that is easy to win.”

German 2018 Coach Of The Year

Former Bayern Munich Coach Jupp Heynckes has been named the best German coach of 2018 after securing a sixth successive Bundesliga title.

Despite winning the Bundesliga, Bayern fell out in the Champions League and DFB Cup Final.

Heynckes' win was a very narrow one with only two votes ahead of second placed Schalke Coach Domenico Tedesco.

“I’m very pleased to have been voted coach of the year,” said Heynckes.

“But I also want to praise those who didn’t vote for me because there are many young coaches in the Bundesliga who deserve this honor as well – and of course Christian Streich at Freiburg.”
