Real Madrid Coach Set For Luka Modric Talks Amid Exit Claims (Details)

Real Madrid Coach Julen Lopetegui has revealed he will meet with Luka Modric on Wednesday to discuss the midfielder's future.

The Croatian has returned from his post-World Cup break after helping his country on the final - where they lost to France.

Modric's performances was recognized and crowed the best player of the tournament with the prestigious Golden Boot Award.

But despite his obvious importance to Real Madrid, Modric’s long-term future with Los Blancos is uncertain following shock speculation over a move to Inter Milan.

Real have already lost one key player to an Italian heavyweight - Cristiano Ronaldo going to Juventus for £88.8million last month - and don’t want to lose another.

Asked about the 32-year-old’s future, Lopetegui told reporters: “The president has already said what needs to be said and there's nothing more to say.

"He's an extraordinary player and we await his arrival [to pre-season] with open arms.

“I talked to him after his excellent World Cup and we'll see if he can play on August 15 [vs Atletico Madrid in the European Super Cup].

"I told him he was a player I'm passionate about, I love him and he knows it. He'll be happy with the proposal he receives here.

“He'll be happy to play football, like he already was, at Real Madrid.

"We agreed to speak on August 8 but he is a player who I love and we are happy to have him here. We've enjoyed having him and we'll continue to do so.”

Modric has two years left on his current contract with deal which he signed in October 2016.
